Slick Rick Will Cast His Vote For Hillary Clinton

After 23 years of legal battles and potential deportation, Slick Rick has finally been granted a US citizenship. One of his first tasks as an American will be exercising his right to vote – for Hillary Clinton.

The Children’s Story rapper has been battling the legal system for years. Born in London, Slick Rick and his family moved to the Bronx when he was just 11, and he became a legal U.S resident in 1976. After finding immense success with the debut of his solo album, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, which came in at No. 1 on the R&B hip-hop charts in 1988, it seemed that the rapper had well and truly managed to achieve the American dream.

Just a few short years later in 1991, that all came crashing down, as Rick pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and eight weapons charges following an altercation with his cousin and then-bodyguard, Mark Pummer. Rick claims he was attempting to extort him. During the altercation an innocent bystander was also injured, however both Plummer and the bystander made full recoveries.

Slick Rick claimed self-defence over the incident and served almost six years in federal prison. After being released, Rick faced constant threats of deportation to England, and it wasn’t until a unconditional pardon was issued to him by David Paterson, governor of New York in 2008, that he could pursue applying for American citizenship.

Now that his bid finally found success, Slick Rick will be using his newfound right to vote to support Hillary Clinton. In an interview with Billboard, Rick explains his reasoning.

“[The Clintons] have a history already in the White House. When her and her crew was in the White House we stayed out of the red ink. They’ve got an audience that follows them. They’ve been around two or three decades so people know them already. We know your heart, you’re sincere. That posse, it doesn’t matter if they switch places, it’s still the same mindset.”

Hopefully his decision to support the Democratic presidential candidate Clinton, over that of Sanders, won’t result in any beef with Killer Mike.
