Skepta Reveals “Konnichiwa” Release Date & Artwork

Grime don Skepta has today released the album artwork and date for his highly anticipated album Konnichiwa. Set for release May 6th, we are already less than a month away from the project. This has been a long time coming, “Three years of my life encapsulated on a CD.” This will be his first full release since the Blacklisted mixtape in 2012.

So what do we know? In an interview with the Red Bull Music Academy, Skepta disclosed that he’s done studio work with the likes of Playboi Carti, Kanye West and Earl Sweatshirt, and on top of that we’ve seen pictures of him with Pharrell in the studio. Fingers crossed we see some of these collaborations cropping up, if not on Konnichiwa, then in the near future.

Konnichiwa is set for release just one week after Drake’s anticipated Views from the 6, and due to their friendship this back to back release is no surprise – who knows, the pair may even arrange a co-headline tour in support of both. Back in February Drake and Skepta crashed a Section Boyz show and announced that Drake had ‘signed’ to Boy Better Know. No more news has come of this so far, but these releases are promising signs of their collaborations.

Not too long ago, Rinse FM DJ posted what looks to be the Konniciwa tracklist, but this has neither been confirmed or denied. We can expect the release to feature his major tunes Shutdown, That’s Not Me, Ladies Hit Squad, Top Boy and possibly Back Then, but we’ll be kept guessing for the rest. Stay tuned for an official tracklist soon!

In the meantime you can sharpen your knowledge by reading our feature on the rise of Boy Better Know here.
