Cash Money Biopic In The Works

A few days ago, Cash Money Records co-owners Birdman and Slim made an appearance at Brooklyn Law School where they expressed their interest in making a film about their label. A recording taken by XXL Mag reveals the two have been working on a script about the label’s rise.

During the interview, Birdman praises Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, calling them “geniuses” for what they’ve accomplished with both their careers and the Straight Outta Compton movie. He goes on to say, “For them to do that [movie] and to make it trend-setting, they opened doors for us, and I think that what we have is way more special because we’re in modern times.”

Birdman also believes he has more than enough stories to make up a feature length film. “This is gold. There’s a lot of things that people don’t know that we went through, things that happened behind the scenes of the company, things that happened before we were with Universal. So we got a lot of stories, but the way I’m putting it together is gonna be great.”

A Cash Money movie would be absolutely amazing. Birdman helped shape the careers of Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj, but he’s also received a large amount of negative press of late. He fell out with Wayne who is suing him for $51 million and has had payment disputes with almost everyone he’s done business with. It will be interesting to see how Birdman and Slim are portrayed and what aspects of their story they choose to leave out. Either way, I’m on board.
