Reggie Watts Performs Droid Funk With BB-8

Now working as the band-leader for James Corden’s The Late Late Show, the beat boxing, comedic genius Reggie Watts recently decided to bring out a special guest on the latest episode. “I’ve been working very closely with this muse,” he said, “This muse is the inspiration for almost all of my music – everything after age 13.” As the curtains open we are graced with Poe Dameron resident BB-8, the droid from the latest Star Wars film, The Force Awakens.

After jokingly translating the droid noises to English, he then samples those sounds into a soulful jam groove lead by the band. Reggie then sings over the top his classic style making the performance both brilliant and hillarious. Good vibes.

This isn’t the first time we’ve had Star Wars-based music in recent weeks. Recently, Rick Rubin compiled an album titled Star Wars Headspace, which featured new music from artists including Flying Lotus, Baauer, Rustie and many more, all of which used musical samples and sound effects from the original films to create new tracks.

Prior to working on The Late Late Show, Watts had previously served a similar role as band leader on Comedy Bang! Bang! Kid Cudi was initially announced as his original replacement, but he has since withdrawn, and is set to be replaced by musical comedian “Weird Al” Yankovic in the next season.
