As one of the most celebrated festivals in history, Woodstock holds a special place in the hearts of many people worldwide. One of those is Michael Lang, who is currently working on a resurrection of the festival that will take place on its 50th anniversary in 2019.
Lang was one of the original creators of the festival back in 1969 when acts such as Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Joan Baez, Sha Na Na, Jefferson Airplane, along with many others. It was a huge success. The festival was made into a documentary a year later, and won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
Now Lang has revealed that “potential partners and different locations are being explored” in an interview with Poughkeepsie Journal. “[Woodstock] is the original and most famous festival brand.” Lang says. “With the prevalence of festivals out there, and all the excitement about them, maybe it’s time for that.”
He also said there may be an overseas event, catering for Woodstock fans in other parts of the world. Lang was unsuccessful in his attempt to recreate the festival for its 40th anniversary.
Will he be successful this time? We have to wait three years to find out.
In 1994, Woodstock’s 25th anniversary was celebrated with a two day festival where artists including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aerosmith, Metallica, The Cranberries, Bob Dylan, Green Day and many others graced the stage. Watch RHCP’s set below.
