Sub Pop Records Have Launched Their Own Podcast

One of my personal favourite record labels, Seattle’s own Sub Pop, has been responsible for some of the best garage, grunge and generally amazing music for close to three decades now. To give you a very quick run down, they’re very much responsible for the rise of grunge (ahem Nirvana, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, Soundgarden,) have also put out records by Sonic Youth, The Shins and Sleater-Kinney among many others, and currently look after an eclectic and delicious mix of acts like Father John Misty, METZ, Shabazz Palaces and Mogwai.

Now, Sub Pop have launched their very own podcast series, with the first two episodes available to stream on YouTube and Soundcloud.

The podcasts are set to feature interviews with artists and people who work within the label, as well as their sister label Hardly Art, and much more. “It’s time to tell the Sub Pop story in our own way,” reads an official press release. “Everyone we’ve ever been involved with has their own “Sub Pop story,” and that’s how we’re choosing to tell it: through the people in our past, present, and maybe even future.

“The podcast is the perfect vehicle to try to contain this sprawl in a (we think) entertaining way. And just like Sub Pop itself, the podcast will certainly change as it grows.”

Whether you’re a full on music nerd or just a casual listener, these are well worth your attention. Check out the first two episodes below, featuring Jonathan Meiburg of Shearwater, Cat Harris-White from THEESatisfaction, Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, and plenty more.

A new episode will be released every Wednesday until early April. But it doesn’t stop there – a second season has already been confirmed. Head to Sub Pop’s website to subscribe and sign up to receive the forthcoming episodes.
