One of the most important decisions basketball players face on a daily basis has nothing to do with strategy or whether or not to take the shot –it’s the question of what hype song does the team warm-up and come out to?
There was no Run the Jewels in my balling days, but you can bet a hundred (hey, that’s still a lot of money to me) that there would have been no violent debates if Run the Jewels 2 had come out four or five years earlier.
It’s too late for washed-up ex collegiate athletes like myself, but it’s not too late for the NBA’s 2015 Scoring Champion, Russell Westbrook. A new commercial for the forthcoming Jordan XXX sneakers, set to air during Super Bowl 50 (or Super Bowl ‘L’ because tradition is important), features Westbrook making a grand entrance into the stadium accompanied by Killer Mike and EL-P’s Blockbuster Night Part 1.
Westbrook’s entrance is accompanied by a loud-mouthed kid bigging up Westbrook’s achievements. The list is endless and I reckon it’s thanks to RTJ hype tracks like this one.
In other RTJ news, they recently started work on Run the Jewels 3, but it turns out they are not done with Meow the Jewels quite yet. The duo dropped a video for Meowpurrdy, ft. Lil Bub, Maceo, and Delonte, last month. The clip is directed by animator Cyriak. It features cats with multiple heads, cats vomiting other cats, cats with lasers coming out of their eyes, and exploding cats, and it’s as frightening as the concept of hell. Do not watch under the influence of hallucinogens.
