WATCH: The New Video For Youth Lagoon’s “Rotten Human”

If there’s one thing we came to learn throughout 2015, its that Trevor Powers (aka Youth Lagoon) is still as much a fan of the strange and surreal as he ever was. His third album, Savage Hills Ballroom proved to be the most confident, rounded LP he’s put out under the Youth Lagoon moniker to date when it was released in September. That confidence in his musical output was carried on through the video for Highway Patrol Stun Gun, with it’s especially poignant undertones.

Now, we have another video from what is arguably one of the best tracks on Savage Hills…, Rotten Human. Directed by Patrick Blades and shot in stunning Iceland, the video follows model Daytona Williams throughout some pretty incredible scenery. Particularly great are the shots of pink and blue waves. However, a somewhat disturbing twist sees Williams sprout two extra heads. Commenting on the video via a press release, Powers said:

when i stumbled onto pat blades’ work, what instantly struck me about it was that he’s a complete visual artist. his background is based around vfx + characters, & every work he’s created in the past looks as though each was made by a different person. there’s nothing i respect more than artistic chameleons, because that’s what art should be. a singular expression every time. never believing in a formula. when we started chatting & i sent him the track, i made a pact with myself that i wouldn’t guide the concept whatsoever. i wanted this to be a true collaboration. i provide the music, & he creates whatever the hell he wants to…& he came back with this.

Just make sure you add ‘Youth Lagoon’ in there when you’re Googling this video, the results without those search terms are uh… awful. Altogether a gorgeously off-kilter video for a song that will chill your bones. We’re looking forward to future Youth Lagoon visuals even more thoroughly after this.
