WATCH: Snoop Dogg Unloads Upon The Oscars

Snoop Dogg has spoken out against the lack of black representation within the 2016 Oscars nominees, labelling the event as “that old slavery-ass bullshit awards show.”

The video, which was posted on YouTube on Monday, came in response to a viral video put out by Jada Pinkett-Smith in which she revealed that she would boycott the 2016 Oscars due to denying black actors and actress’s nominations for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

In his own video, Snoop noted that he felt the same way with the Grammys, revealing he had been nominated a total of 15-16 times, without once winning any awards.

“They steal all our culture, steal all our slang, steal all our everything, and they make it cool, and then we can’t get no acknowledgement for what we do as far as being originators and creators.”

Continuing on, Snoop revealed his sentiments towards the entertainment industry awards in a far blunter fashion than Pinkett-Smith.

“Fuck The Oscars, fuck The Grammys and fuck any of you motherfuckers who nominate or don’t nominate.”

Snoop went on to suggest that the Afro-American community could consider holding The Hood Awards in order to recognise the artistic contributions of members of the black community.

A glance at nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards suggests that there is indeed a notable absence of actors and directors of colour, with notable omission including John Boyega for his role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Michael B. Jordan for Creed.

By contrast, black rights advocate Kendrick Lamar is up for a huge 11 awards for his groundbreaking 2015 release, To Pimp A ButterflyThe Weeknd follows with seven, Drake with five and D’Angelo with three nominations.

Snoop isn’t missing out either, scoring a nomination for his appearance on Kendrick’s To Pimp a Butterfly in the Album of the Year category. View the full list of nominations here.

Despite the increased recognition in the musical world of black artists, numbers still show that the arts industry leans heavily towards the work of its white contributors.

Snoop signs off with the friendly reminder that “I will not be watching that bullshit-ass show. I will be smoking dope, kicking it. Ye dig? Now suck dick or die tryin’.”
