If you haven’t heard Nick Grant yet, it’s okay, but these three tracks will surely have you setting the Google alerts for more.
Grant is a MC out of Atlanta who is really starting to make a name for himself and hold his own among the top scorers of hip-hop. All it took to get his name out there was a killer four minute freestyle on American radio show Sway in The Morning back in October, which gave him the title of “MC to watch.”
In the past week or so, Grant has dropped three just fuckin’ amazing tracks. The first was Me, Myself, and Pride which taps into Beyoncé’s popular 2003 single, Me, Myself, and I. In this track, Grant lets his emotions run free and really shows off his storytelling ability.
The second track is titled Black Sinatra and features the freestyle he performed on Sway – or perhaps the ‘freestyle’ was him featuring this song on Sway. The song is a mix of classic storytelling that gives it a New York Big L vibe.
The third track is a remix of Grant’s own Royalty; the original features CyHi The Prince and was released in October 2015. Looking to get the most from his track, Grant recruited hard hitters Big K.R.I.T. and Killer Mike for the remix – fitting accompaniments for a song about kings. The three flow over a melodic beat by producer Damon Thomas (Beats In My Backpack) and boast killer lyricism. Grant really holds his own keeping up with these two, and we should expect big things in the future from this late-20 something wordsmith.
Be sure to get Nick Grant’s forthcoming mix tape ’88 due out Feb 2nd, which will feature both Black Sinatra and Royalty (Remix). Young Dro, BJ The Chicago Kid and Stacy Barth are also featured on the project.
