Malo Zima’s Favourite Tunes

Brisbane five piece Malo Zima have just released one of those EPs that make you physically gasp with how beautiful it sounds. Stunning from start to finish, the band have come from out of no where to release Cornerstone – five tracks of lush, rich soundscapes that give a whole new meaning to the “bedroom jam” vibes the band was born from.

Already blowing expectations well and truly out of the water, the band are set to serenade their hometown fans at their EP launch tomorrow night, and it is looking to be one hell of a show. If this is what they’re capable of for their debut, something tells us it really is only up from here. To celebrate the release of Cornerstone as well as their launch, we asked the band all about their favourite songs. Cooking, cleaning, partying and makin’ love, these are Malo Zima’s favourite tunes!

My favourite track to wake up to is…Zero 7 – Destiny
These guys always seem like a good choice in the morning.

The best track for cooking is…Sergio Mendes + Brasil 66 – Mas Que Nada
Will get you adding all the spices.

The best track for spring cleaning is…Neil Young – Harvest
Neil Young’s records always seemed to be spinning when it came time to do the spring cleaning.

The ultimate road trip track is…Nujabes – Far Fowls
Let it take you down the highway.

My favourite love song is…The Beatles – Here, There, and Everywhere
It was a tough choice between this one and Something, but I guess you could say there’s just something about this track.

The best track for sweet love makin’ is…Van Morrison – Crazy Love
Van Morrison’s always a good time.

The track that always gets the party started is…Curtis Mayfield – Move On Up
Anyone that doesn’t get up to this should leave.

The best track to wind down a crowd is…Portishead – Roads
Trip-hop induced slumber.

My favourite drunken karaoke track is…Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody
Hands down, especially when friends get involved.

My favourite song to sing in the shower is…Fleet Foxes – White Winter Hymnal
This one’s always fun to sing in reverberant spaces.

A song that always makes me cry is…Radiohead – Motion Picture Soundtrack
Red wine and sleeping pills.

I love going to sleep listening to…Brian Eno – Ambient 1: Music for Airports 1/1
Sweet dreams.

I can’t stop dancing when I hear…Massive Attack – Unfinished Sympathy
Not your typical club banger, but it’s got soul.
