Lethal Bizzle and Stormzy link up, go all kinds of hard on new single ‘Dude’

2015 has been one hell of a year for the UK grime scene. It’s not showing any signs of slowing down either, with a new single and an accompanying video dropping today for a tag team cut by Lethal Bizzle and Stormzy. Entitled Dude, we should put a disclaimer here that it goes all kinds of hard. Check it:

The pair have previously hooked up on a remix of Bizzle’s Fester Skank earlier this year and it was fantastic, so you just knew this would be no different. The beat is fantastic, trap percussion over the top of some huge synths that remind me of an old school Megaman game on Super Nintendo. Lethal Bizzle does the honours with the first two verses, spitting bars left and right. The structure of his flow is interesting, methodically repeating himself every couple of lines before leading the chorus of ‘Nah fam, you ain’t that dude’. He calls out the media a heck of a lot, putting them on blast for trying to keep grime underground, ‘the only coverage we get when London’s burning down’ a powerful line. Stormzy brings it home with braggadocious swagger.

The video is menacing as all hell too, Lethal rapping his first verse in the face of an unfortunate fellow wearing a gas mask and bound to a pole in a dank room. It’s visually confronting too, the mix of black and red strobe lighting lending the clip an air of violence that goes along perfectly with the hard-hitting beat and intense lyrics.

It’s another fantastic grime single, the combination of two of the scene’s premier talents. We look forward to more as grime continues to blow up worldwide.
