Fresh from performing at the Democratic National Conference and receiving some sage advice from on Barack Obama, it seems Kanye West was feeling pretty good about himself. Pretty confident, you know? He’s a talented man, anyone could agree on that whether you like him or not. He’s one of the most successful artists in the world and has received multiple awards for his music. However, there is still one title he hasn’t received, and perhaps his time spent with the United States Democrats sparked his #selfbelief just enough to FINALLY go after what he wants: to become the 2016 American Idol.
That’s right, folks! Kanye West not only performed for the President of the United States of America, he also took it upon himself to audition for American Idol. Footage of the audition is scarce, but the clip below is all you need to see hard proof that the audition took place, and he typically nailed it in a way only ‘Ye could when rapping his own lyrics without any music. His song choice, interestingly, was Gold Digger. He probably chose that one to win some brownie points with judge JLo as he chose the verse he mentions her in to spit. Lopez was grooving along whilst co-judge Harry Connick Jr looked on with a smile that says “What the fuck is going on here?”

And the outcome? Well, we can only assume but it looks like, judging by host Ryan Seacrest‘s Instagram post, Kanye West is through to the second round. Here’s hoping that the success prompts ‘Ye to finally drop his long awaited Swish; the album he rescheduled his 2014 Australian tour for.
