Not ones to shy away from sprawling, epic, long-winded but nonetheless extremely enjoyable tracks, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard unleashed their unique havoc on KEXP this week. Performing three tracks jammed into one, the Melbourne seven-piece tore up the radio station’s live room playing I’m In Your Mind, Cellophane and I’m In Your Mind Fuzz in spectacular fashion.
Having just wrapped up across the U.S., the King Gizzard boys are doing a fantastic job of keeping everyone on their toes ahead of the release of their latest album, Paper Mache Dream Balloon, in November. This album marks their seventh album in just three years (as well as two EPs), and will also see the band venture into new direction. Frontman Stu Mackenzie said of the next release, “I always wanted to be a band where you would expect the unexpected each time, with each album being treated like a different phase.” The band have already released the title track and another single, Trapdoor, and the differences are already quite apparent.
If, after the above clip, are dying for some live King Gizzard action, you can catch them at both the Falls and Southbound festivals over the New Year’s Eve break. Tickets are already hot commodities for all four dates, so delay no more!
