Janet Jackson has been through a lot since the release of her last album in 2008 – not that much of it has been related to music. Now, she’s back with a brand new album Unbreakable and a World Tour, which began on Monday night in Vancouver. She decided to start the show with a brand new track, featuring Missy Elliott.
The track, which is said to be called Burn It Up, is described by Elliott as a “clubbanggger“. While Elliott’s vocals were brought to life via a screen projection, Jackson’s silhouette stood still on stage. As she emerged into the spotlight, she proved that her seven year break was over. The performance was a complete surprise to happy fans, who loved the energy and quality production. The performance of the soon-to-be pop hit was shot by fans and posted online.

The follow-up to 2008’s Discipline will be released during America’s Autumn (Australia’s Spring) this year. Producer Jimmy Jam gave Entertainment Weekly a few of his thoughts about the album. “I think it’s totally different from any of her other albums. But it feels like her. At the end of the day, I go back to that. The thing about this album is there’s a lot of different places that it touches, but at the end of the day, it’s pure Janet.”
