Tijuana Cartel bring an amalgamation of world music and club beats to the stage, resulting in highly contagious toe tapping action. It’s a sight to behold – one you can catch on their upcoming national tour, in celebration of the release of their upcoming album.
Psychedelicatessen is due out on September 4th, and is said to be their most ambitious release to date. The record reportedly takes inspiration from a 1978 radio play aired on Double J, titled, “What’s Rangoon to you is Grafton to me,” the story of a colourful, psychedelic road trip from Brisbane to Sydney. The album was not only inspired by the play, but is in tribute to author Russell Guy. Singer/songwriter Paul George has explained that the album takes Tijuana Cartel in a new direction – fans can look forward to an electrified kaleidoscope of laid-back rhythms and luscious vocals.
The hippie author gives his seal of approval to the use of his material in the album with a classic gonzo rant:
“Songs like Kelly’s Existential Dilemma, Leaving London, Lost My Head, Spend Your Money and Black Magic Superstar chart a course to a place we’ve yet to imagine… This new album pings on cruise control as it translates, engages and navigates the worldwide plague of earthquakes, terrorism, crime, corruption, scoffers, mockers, volcanic eruptions and psycho-babble, while segueing into a groove that the Gobble-up Machine can’t follow.”
It really can’t be said any better. Gold Coast duo Paul George and Carey O’Sullivan will bring their acclaimed live show to the far corners of the country, accompanied by Yoav Maschiach on percussion and Joshua Sinclair on trumpet.
