The Brian Jonestown Massacre 25th anniversary Silver Jubilee Tour

Words by Matt Hall

The Brian Jonestown Massacre have announced a string of Australian shows for the end of the year, kicking off in Brisbane followed by shows in Hobart, Sydney and Melbourne. The band will be celebrating its 25th year of existence on The Silver Jubilee Tour.

Since they were last in Australia in 2013, always-prolific frontman Anton Newcombe has been busy recording and releasing the bands latest album Revelations, another brilliantly crafted psychedelic rock record. Oft remembered for their volatility in the 90’s thanks to the music documentary Dig! BJM seemed to find a calmer cadence in the 2000’s. Despite a rotating cast of band members, Newcombe’s creative output seems inexhaustible, and BJM continues to produce great records seemingly every other year.

Recorded and produced entirely by Anton in his Berlin studio and released on his label A Recordings, Revelations tracks figure to feature prominently in the performances. In shows promised to be filled with songs from the last few years as well as some older tracks never before played live, The Silver Jubilee Tour guarantees to be an event that no die-hard fan would miss.

In conjunction with the band’s anniversary and the special Australian shows, each venue will be making available a collection of limited edition 10” numbered vinyls entitled the bjm mini album.

Having seen the band several times, I can promise that if you’re of the psychedelic-shoegaze-rock’n’roll inclination then you will certainly not want to miss these shows.
