Swoon for Jamie Woon

Jamie Woon has released some more soul-magic in the form of Sharpness. It has been quite a while since the UK crooner gave us his debut album Mirrorwriting in 2011. Besides his January collaboration with Falls Festival headliners Disclosure, Jamie Woon has been surreptiously serenading birds and moths under the dark cloak of night (one the magical things blessed singers do with their bliss-voices). Sharpness is exciting not only because it is perhaps the first taste of an upcoming album, but also because it beautiful, slow-burn soul.

The song is just so let-everything-go relaxed. Understated synths and keys lie in rich imbrications under his gliding voice, and the whole atmosphere really works off that feel. Jamie Woon’s vocal finesse reminds of the soft-spoken soul of the kind of veteran singers who never see the need to yell their cadences flat or ugly. So let this song gently shuffle its way on to your inner stage. You’ll be swooning.
