Fuck a duck, if you’ve been waiting as long as I have for the Drunk Mums fellas to put their green goblins down, pull their bloody fingers out and hit us with a follow-up to their self-titled LP from all the way back in 2012, today will go somewhat towards giving you some sweet, nourishing relief, with the dropping of a brand new single and the announcement of their forthcoming album and accompanying tour.
As you may gather, the Drunk Mums are crafty veterans of public establishments, and Pub On My Own draws from what is no doubt a wealth of solitary drinking experiences, which can be the best of times.
Their brand of rock and roll is no frills and no fucks at all times, blue collar to the absolute core and that doesn’t look to be changing any time soon. The familiar ashtray guitar riffs and sneering vocals synonymous with these guys are still there (like they were ever going anywhere) and it’s a nifty little preview of what will hopefully be a sophomore album of consistent quality. The Drunk Mums boys are citing Creedence Clearwater Revival and 77-style punk as notable influences on their overall sound this go around, a combination that both intrigues and delights.
Gone Troppo is the name and it’s out September 4th on the beautifully-titled Pissfart Records. Shortly after that the band are embarking on a 15-date Australian tour. Having seen them live a few times and barely surviving, I can safely you’re a real dickhead if you don’t catch them at:
