Gilligan Moss’ Favourite Tunes

In a world where every man and his dog is a DJ/producer, I am still sometimes surprised at the originality some artists show from the get go. Enter Gilligan Moss, a man who unleashed his debut EP Ceremonial recently in all it’s glitchy, eclectic, unpredictable but oh so much fun glory.

The four track EP weaves an intricate journey of an array of different styles and influences, but never once stays too still for too long. Gilligan Moss not only surpassed all expectations with this release, but totally obliterated them. Easily sitting alongside any of the frontrunners like Jamie xx or Four Tet, Moss’ left-of-centre electronica is definitely worth a lot of your time.

In all the post-release mayhem, we got to ask the man himself about his favourite tunes, and not surprisingly he did not disappoint! Ceremonial is out now via AMF/Caroline Australia.

My favourite track to wake up to is…  Brian Eno – 1/1
This is one of my favorite Eno tracks.  It captures the lucid feeling of early morning perfectly.

The best track for cooking is… Chedda Da Connect – Flicka Da Wrist
I don’t cook, but if I did, I’d imagine this would be the track.  I think this is kind of the obvious choice here.

The best track for spring cleaning is…  Project Pablo – Movin’ Out
A great track for a warm afternoon.  Perfect for getting shit done.

The ultimate road trip track is… DJ Koze – Homesick
This was a big one for us on our last tour.  All of Amygdala is great for the road.

My favourite love song is… Aphex Twin – Aisatana
Just a beautiful love song that isn’t afraid to be beautiful.

The best track for sweet love makin’ is…  Twista ft. Do or Die – Do You
Legendary Chicago baby makin’ music.

The track that always gets the party started is… Jonas Rathman – Tobago
Perfectly built for a night out.  Simple as that.

The best track to wind down a crowd is… Portable – Surrender
An amazing end of the night/sunrise track. One of the best songs to come out in the past year.

My favourite drunken karaoke track is… K-Ci & JoJo – All My Life
The quintessential karaoke track: everyone knows it, everyone can scream it…it’s a great song.

My favourite song to sing in the shower is… Brian Eno – Backwater
Can’t say I know all the words, but this is such a great one to grunt along to (despite not knowing the words).

A song that always makes me cry is…  Jonsi and Alex – Happiness
Riceboy Sleeps is one of my all time favourite albums.  I vibrate at the same frequency as that album.

I love going to sleep listening to…
I actually go to sleep listening to podcasts. I’m a podcast fiend. I really like Here’s The Thing with Alec Baldwin for going to sleep. Ol’ Alec has a surprisingly soothing podcast voice.

I can’t stop dancing when I hear… Black Motion – Fortune Teller
These dudes are making some of the best dance music out right now.  They also had one of the best boiler room sets I’ve seen.
