After touring for what seemed like an eternity, FKA twigs finally took her voguing hat off for a well deserved break recently. However, it seems that break didn’t last too long thanks to the release of a new single titled Figure 8, said to be taken from a new EP.
Premiered on Zane Lowe‘s Beats 1 Radio show, the singer shared the first listen of the very twigs-esque track, as well as a brief interview about inspirations with the radio presenter. It’s creaking, melodic, a little uncomfortable and undeniably a FKA twigs track with it’s production style. The singer went into detail about the inspiration for the track, which came from a time when she felt a bit existential and was learning voguing from a New York dancer. The “figure 8″ is the figure 8 in the dance, and “the reflection of my mind’s state, and I guess landing New York and finding something that I felt like I could hold onto to keep me sane.”
The EP is yet to be titled, and will also feature the previously released Glass & Patron. Both tracks show a strong evolution in twigs’ sound, building upon what we have previously heard, but narrowing in and honing her sound into a much more refined, living being of sorts. Take a listen to the track and interview below!
