You Beauty are back with more concept post-punk

You don’t get much better in terms of a concept behind an album as You Beauty gave us with their debut LP, a tale of a mid-90s NRL star finding love and losing sight of the rails titled Jersey Flegg.

Drawing bang on comparisons to early INXS, Jersey Flegg was possibly the first album ever described as a pub rock opera (hopefully not the last!). Even though the full time whistle has sounded, the boys in You Beauty aren’t resting on their laurels, following up this week with a brand new single, Illywhacka

It’s the debut single from their sophomore effort of the same name, another concept album dealing with the trials and tribulations of an online romance scammer falling in love with one of the women he’s ripping off. The hook is infectious, the sound harkening wistfully back to the early 80s when bands like Hunters And Collectors and Mental As Anything were at the forefront of Australian pub rock’s boom period.

You can catch You Beauty in their natural environment on these dates:

Sat Aug 8th: The Milk Factory, Brisbane

Sat Aug 29th: Volumes Festival, Sydney
