Strange Talk releases long-awaited single “Something’s Bout to Change”

In late May, Strange Talk started confirming what we’ve long been hoping for, that new music is on the cards, a tour is being lined up, and perhaps even a new Strange Talk sound is going to emerge. It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the Melbourne shiny electro-pop four piece, whose debut album Cast Away blew us away in 2013 with its massive synth riffs, futuristic, glittery keyboard and overall magnetic beats. This week they dropped a taste of new Strange Talk sound to come with Something’s Bout to Change and it’s a banger; drenched with funk, a layered, intense build and a ripping, high-energy hook that will guaren-fucking-tee dance floor manoeuvres, stat. The repetitive lyrics – a simpler approach to what we heard on the album Cast Away – might not be for everyone, but frankly, when everyone’s getting down, who cares? If this is new Strange Talk, then sign me up.

It’s pretty exciting news from the Melbourne boys, who’ve done a smashing job winning over the US market with their irresistible, summery synth-pop vibes. Indeed, it seems the US has a thing for the delightful pop sounds of the Melbourne quartet; they were No.1 on the Billboard Uncharted rankings (with their shiny Phoenix-influenced Climbing Walls), made Billboard’s list of undiscovered talents, and the Huffington Post included them in their article 30 SXSW Acts About to Break after they rocked the music fest in early 2014.

Also, if you thought they sounded familiar, you’re right: they scored a huge coup when Snapchat used their nostalgic (if slightly cheesy) summery pop song Young Hearts for their new update in 2014.

With an impeccable pedigree of previous collaborators and producers alike, including Van She Tech and John Fields (of The Presets and Cut Copy), talk of Strange Talk’s new music has us salivating. While we wait, put this immediately on repeat and reminisce about brighter, warmer days filled with glittering sunlight, sand and cider:
