Since making the move from Myrtleford to Melbourne, songwriter/ producer James McGuffie (aka Mcrobin) has earned himself some serious song-writing creds. He placed as a finalist in both the International Songwriting Competition (the same platform which boasts Vance Joy as alumni) and the Darebin Music Feast Songwriters’ Award. Accolades aside, he’s got a brand of alternative, indie-folk, tinged with folktronica elements that stuns and a knack for crafting some seriously beautiful music.
Enter his latest single In: a warm, melodic tune filled with layers of soft guitar, punctuated considered and carefully crafted wave-like synths and percussion. The single is off his upcoming EP Fault Lines and has McGuffie’s inviting voice takes centre-stage, his vocals delivering some pretty stunning lyrics.
I’ve found the soft warmth of In has been the perfect antidote to what is a particularly cold day. Reading the explanation behind the song, that’s a rather fitting notion: “Lyrically, ‘In‘ is a tribute to the people who manage to still bring warmth and happiness to a relationship or circumstance despite the cold and bitterness they are feeling within themselves.”
