Tamper’s Favourite Tunes

I was introduced to US-based duo Tamper earlier this year, with the arrival of their phenomenal debut single Take It In. This incredible blend of organic melodies with phenomenally produced electronic beats really hit the spot for me, and I’ll bet it will for you too. Blending a husky indie melody with this warbled, modulated bass created a refreshing, original sound, and I can’t wait to hear more from them.

Tamper is made up by an Aussie guy and an Irish guy, who met by chance in New York, and started making music together. Writing and producing from their Bedford-Stuyvesant studio, a four track EP is set to drop at some point this year.

Check out the new video for Take It In:

Anyway, judging by the diversity heard in but one of their tracks, we felt it necessary to delve a little further, and find out some of their personal favourite songs.

My favourite track to wake up to is…  The Fervor, Same State
Found out about this band through a chance encounter with a compilation vinyl called ‘Louisville is for Lovers.’ This track just makes me smile.

The best track for cooking is… Aaron Embry, Raven’s Song
Had the pleasure of opening for this guy a while ago in LA. Blew me away. Really great lad too. This track is short and sweet. Check out the rest of the record – ‘Tiny Prayers’.

The best track for spring cleaning is…  Beirut, East Harlem
Cleaning is depressing. This might give you a lift.

The ultimate road trip track is…. Beck, The Golden Age
Took a road trip with my Dad and my mate Kevin recently. We drove from Nashville to Memphis, and back to Nashville at night via Mississippi and Alabama. Had some Beck blasting. Golden Age – what a tune.

My favourite love song is… Van Morrison, And The Healing Has Begun
When I got my first record player a couple of years ago I went through a phase of picking up as many Van albums as I could. I stumbled upon ‘Into The Music’ for five bucks in a bin outside a record store in Park Slope and it has since become one of my favorite albums. This track is epic.

The best track for sweet love makin’ is… Damien Rice, Delicate
Damo is the man.

The track that always gets the party started is… House of Pain, Jump Around
Probably been said a million times, but this is a cert.

The best track to wind down a crowd is… Radiohead, We Suck Young Blood
This one is for my mate Lagan. He used to put this gem on at a party in our student house in Belfast when he wanted to kill the vibes. Always cracked me up.

My favourite drunken karaoke track is… Chris Isaak, Wicked Game
Always great listening to people try and hit the high notes.

My favourite song to sing in the shower is… Radiohead, Let Down
Or any of the songs on this list…

A song that always makes me cry is…  Villagers, The Meaning of the Ritual
Beautiful and honest. I’m a big fan of all the Villagers stuff, but I always come back to this tune. Moves me every time.

I love going to sleep listening to…..  Nick Drake, Which Will
Really anything by Nick Drake is great to sleep to, but this is my fav.

I can’t stop dancing when I hear…. Jackie Wilson, Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher
If it made a toaster dance in Ghostbusters 2 then it’s good enough for me.
