Muscles lets “Unicorns” run wild

“I know that voice…”

I was sitting at work the other day, minding my own business when a distinctive sound pulled me from my desk over to the radio, my heart thudding with excitement as I turned up the volume. It sounds like an exaggeration, but it isn’t and I’m not quite sure what that says about me.

“It couldn’t be… Muscles – could it?”

The song finished and my giddy suspicions were confirmed. Yes, it fucking could be! I probably should have known, because he posted this Facebook status earlier in the year:

musclesSuch a tease

Having discovered Muscles pretty late in the game, I felt like I had missed out on something really spectacular through a stubborn and uneducated distaste for anything that wasn’t some form of ‘rock’. By the time I had wised up, it seemed to be too late and things got kind of quiet in the Muscles camp for a while there. So when I heard Unicorns as it premiered on Triple J earlier this week, I was beyond thrilled. Judging by the feedback on the J text line, I sure as shit wasn’t the only one.

Unicorns is the Melbourne-based electro artist’s first release since 2012 and it’s a real goodunn. It is signature Muscles and I love it. The hip-hop laced build, the anthemic refrain – everything about Unicorns immediately instills party vibes – and really, would you expect anything less? While this beast is not going to be officially unleashed until May 29th, you can listen to it on SoundCloud – and you should. Listen to it loud, listen to it often and revel in the fact that Muscles is back – I know I am.
