Karen O song featured in Google Doodle

There is nothing worse for our procrastination habits than an interactive Google Doodle. Don’t worry, it wasn’t Pacman this time.

Yesterday was the 151st birthday of investigative journalist Nellie Bly, who was famous for travelling around the world in 72 days and breaking a world record in the process.

To celebrate the birth of this amazing woman, Google released an animated video with an original song by Yeah Yeah Yeah‘s leading lady Karen O, written especially for the doodle.

In this sweet tribute to Bly, the song features Karen’s folk-like vocals with a light guitar in the background. She praises Bly for the incredible work she did for those who cannot speak for themselves, while encouraging today’s women to “stand up and tell the world what a girl is good for”.

Damn right.
