Scarlett Johansson Has Formed a Girl Group!

Scarlett Johansson has always had been drawn towards music. She’s done a few covers here and there, as well as a few collaborations. She even released a full album of Tom Waits covers in 2008 called Anywhere I Lay My Head.

Here is she performing with Pete Yorn about five years ago.

Recently, we haven’t seen much of her musical talent as she’s been focusing on acting. Until now, that is.

She has formed an electro-pop band with HAIM’s Este Haim, along with Holly Miranda, Julia Haltigan and Kendra Morris, known as The Singles.

In a press release, Johansson says, “the idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls.”

Johansson cites past successful girl groups like Grimes, the Bangles and the Go-Go’s as the inspiration for this project. “I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke,” she said.

The group has recorded their first single together with TV On The Radio and Yeah Yeah Yeahs producer Dave Sitek. You can listen to their upbeat, flirty-sounding track, Candy, here.
