Arguably the most important So-Cal rap group of all time, N.W.A have released one hell of a trailer for their upcoming biopic Straight Outta Compton. Months away from release date, the film is already set to be exciting, divisive and controversial.
N.W.A’s career may have only lasted a few real years, but what they did, and what they stood for was nothing short of revolutionary. The film will no doubt provide an insight (Hollywood-ified as it may be) into their lives and stories, both personal and musical.
The film stars Corey Hawkins as Dre, Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E and Ice Cube’s own son, O’Shea Jackson Jr, as his father. The trailer also shows Paul Giamatti playing their manager, Jerry Heller.
Following an introduction, we’re given a sneak peek into the group as fresh teenagers, before blowing up and being caught in the intense controversy that followed the album release, and particularly Fuck Tha Police.
Oh, and Kendrick Lamar makes a cameo too. “When I think of N.W.A, it wasn’t even music to me, it was a real lifestyle. Brothers from my neighbourhood that made it out.”
Anyway, watch it here. I for one, cannot fucking wait to see this movie.
