Jarryd James

Jarryd James goes all deep and meaningful

You know when you’re going through a hard time and suddenly you hear a song that sums up your whole situation?

This is one of those songs.

Do You Remember? is the debut single by Brisbane’s Jarryd James released earlier this week. He was initially in Matt Corby‘s band, accompanying Corby on keyboards during his breathtaking cover of Resolution at last year’s APRA Awards. As a solo act, Jarryd was then featured on 5THS‘s single Sell It To Me and has supported New Zealand duo Broods on tour. More recently, he is set to support Angus and Julia Stone during their Summer tour this February.

James’ raspy, falsetto voice is more than enough to capture the emotion of the song, but when combined with the heartfelt lyrics. Amazing. It goes to show that Jarryd has some serious songwriting skills. The beat is slow, subtle and, mostly importantly, sets the mood. It’s almost like it’s telling you to pay attention to the words because, after all, that’s where the story is.

Try listening to Jarryd James on a train on a rainy day. You’ll see what I mean.
