There’s a New Dope Lemon EP Inbound Next Week Because Yes

Chances are you’ve heard of Dope Lemon, the side-project of the outlandishly talented Angus Stone. Debut album Honey Bones was one of the standout releases from 2016 and hit singles Marinade and Uptown Folks left their soulful fingerprints all over Australian airwaves. Not about to simply rest on those laurels in the new year, Stone has today announced a brand new Dope Lemon EP set for release in just a week’s time as well as gifting us one of the tracks today in brand new single Home Soon. Put it in your ears below:

It’s the opening track for Dope Lemon’s latest project, EP Hound’s Tooth. The distinct South American flavour you’re getting on this delightfully warm number is no accident, the instrumental foundation of the song was discovered by Stone while travelling. Teaming up with the band behind it, Stone has added his own lyrics and the end result is utterly intoxicating, vibrant horns and funk vibes juxtaposed wonderfully with jangly guitars and Stone’s fuzzed out vocal delivery, it’s like sitting in a heat haze with a cold beer.

We’ll have to wait until next Friday to see what the rest of Hound’s Tooth will bring but this opening salvo leaves us very much anticipating more of the same stellar work from Honey Bones that brought Dope Lemon into the national spotlight as one of the best new acts around. From there, you can catch Dope Lemon in the live arena at festivals like WOMADelaide, Party In The Park, Live By The Bay and Hills Are Alive. In the meantime, you can preorder Hound’s Tooth now

We’re not sure what we did to deserve new music from Dope Lemon so soon but we’re fucking glad it’s just around the corner.
