Warpaint Announce Upcoming Album and Release “New Song”

Although the ladies of Warpaint have been hard at work with their solo projects, it has been revealed that they somehow had time to create an album together within the last two years. Heads Up, which will be released in September, is its title, the follow-up to their 2014 self-titled album.

Among the 11 tracks is their upbeat and straight-forwardly named new single New Song, which provides a small taste of what we’re about to hear. The good vibes shine like the sun rising over a new day with their bright melody and overpowering vocals. I’m sure that after a few listens you will be unable to stop the words “you’re a new song// you’re a new song baby” from passing your lips as you dance around to the beat.

The band’s bassist and one of the vocalists Jenny Lee Lindberg has given us some very positive expectations for the album, explaining her pride in what they have created together:

“I feel really proud of what we made—almost surprised and shocked. When we were making it, I was like, “I wonder what this is going to sound like? How’s this going to come together?” I love the way that it came together so nicely. I feel so proud of it, and like it’s an evolution of our band. It sounds like a mature version of Warpaint.”

Each member of the band has been working on their own side projects. While Lindberg had an album called Right On! released in 2015, Emily Kokal and Stella Mozgawa collaborated with other artists including Saul Williams and Paul Bergmann and Kurt Ville, respectively. Theresa Wayman has created a new trio called BOSS with Guro Gikling and Sarah Jones and is still working on an album.

The new album is not all for Warpaint either. They will be going on a tour of the US and Europe from mid-September to the beginning of November and hopefully they might be able to fit in a stop in Australia for good measure.

Heads Up will be released on September 23 on Rough Trade/Remote Control Records.
