In case you missed it, Rich Chigga is one of the best up and coming rappers to come out of Jakarta. No, really; he’s awesome. Sixteen years old and already killing it. He’s impressed some of the biggest names in rap, including Desiigner, Ghostface Killah and Tory Lanez. Remember who he is yet? No? Maybe this will jog your memory:
Yeah. Now if you aren’t comatose from the sheer brilliance of that video, you’ll be pleased to know that the visionary has dropped another track, this time called Who That Be. Leading with a really hot electronic beat, the bars just keep coming. And holy shit they are fire. His voice and flow are superb. But the best part about it is that while it’s clearly a schtick, it’s also really good, and there’s a level of self-awareness that transcends regular satire. Check out his new track below:
It does raise the question as to when satire becomes something more. Rich Chigga is obviously taking the piss, but he’s doing it in a way that makes you legitimately want to listen to him. Both of these tracks are in my main playlists, and there’s no doubt that he has talent.
What separates him from someone like Lil Yachty? As a commenter on Reddit pointed out, Drake used to play a paraplegic in a TV show for pre-teens, and he was rapping about having money and game since 2007, which was pre-Wayne era. Sure, this is satire, but meme rap is still listenable.
