Against Me! Release Irreverently Cosmic Visuals for “Crash”

When announcing the forthcoming Against Me! LP back in July, frontwoman Laura Jane Grace made clear that the album would be less political than 2014’s Transgender Dysphoria Blues.

Exploring themes of misguided revelry and calamitous life choices, Crash cuts a welcome balance of pop and punk. Reflecting the lighter shades of the party anthem, this latest clip depicts the group reenacting the single within the spacily reappointed backdrop of Athens, Georgia’s 40 Watt Club. In keeping with the general blasé mood of the irreverent track, the group’s delivery extends a welcome invitation to join in the fun. Amidst loosely choreographed lightsaber duelling, KISS-style makeup also makes a nod to the low budget film clips and cheesier gloss of glam rock.

“This was one of the most difficult videos we’ve ever made because it was filmed in outer space,” drummer Atom Willard jokingly comments. “The time it took to get there alone was enough to make some bands back down from the challenge, but we really believed it was the only way to fully realize our vision.”

Against Me!’s new album Shape Shift with Me, which explores themes of romance from a trans perspective, will be dropping September 16. Laura Jane Grace’s highly anticipated memoir TRANNY: Confessions of Punk Rock’s Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout is set for release on November 15.
