If you like fundraising to help those in desperate need and like to do it with a soundtrack of excellent live music then OXJAM may just be right up your alley. OXJAM is a national music festival that helps to raise money for humanitarian organisation OXFAM in their fight against world poverty. Running throughout the month of August and with DIY parties popping up all around the country, the month is set to be launched with a bang with three separate fundraisers in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in the coming weeks.
Enlisting the help of some of their friends in the music industry in I Oh You, UNDR ctrl and TBC Club, each collective will be putting on their own unique event in their state capital. In Melbourne you’ll get I Oh You rocking out with the likes of Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, The Peep Tempel and Wet Lips at the institutional Howler. In Sydney, UNDR ctrl will be at the Oxford Art Factory coincidentally celebrating their second birthday there by partying with Roland Tings, Rainbow Chan, Third Floor and more and in Brisbane you’ll find Polba, Kinloch and Aidan Montero getting down at TBC Club.
The best part about OXJAM though is that anyone can host their own event. Last year there were more than 180 OXJAM gigs around Australia hosting around 12 000 people and raising a whole lot of much-needed money for OXFAM. You can even enter into this year’s “Win A Headliner” competition, which will snare you the deck-spinning services* of One Day, Cub Sport or PVT to make your event really pop (*servitude is not permanent).
If you need some inspiration, OXJAM have released an official video featuring their official ambassadors in Megan Washington and Art Vs Science, with guest spots from Bag Raiders, Basenji, Thandi Phoenix and Matt Okine.
