Lately it seems as though Vic Mensa can’t stop, won’t stop. Between dropping his incredible mixtape There’s Alot Going On as well as a powerful video for the title track, freestyling over Pusha T’s Drug Dealers Anonymous, and now gifting us not one but TWO more new freestyles, he’s definitely among hip-hop’s busiest at the moment.
Mensa spat some serious fire on his 5 Fingers Of Death freestyle on Sway In The Morning, unpacking the tragic recent events in Orlando, police brutality, and the Presidential race. Vic’s always been an outspoken advocate for social justice in his music, but as he recently pointed out, calling any hip-hop that is more about honesty than “the club or a Maserati” explicitly political isn’t exactly fair or right.
The Chicago rapper has also freestyled over ScHoolboy Q’s THat Part for Power I06’s LA Leakers. The dynamic gesturing Mensa uses on his Save Money Summer freestyle is seriously impressive and makes this one just as enthralling to watch as it is to hear. There appears to be mention of a beef brewing between Mensa and Chance The Rapper, his fellow Save Money crew member who Mensa blacked out in a recent now-deleted Instagram post: I might have to call Miss Info/ Let her get a little bit of info/ About some niggas I used to be cool with.
