LISTEN: Someone Compiled Every Sample on Kendrick Lamar’s “Section.80″

The internet is a hub for many wonderful things, and one of those things are intensely detailed compilations created by amazingly dedicated stans with far too much time on their hands.

First appearing on Reddit, someone has made a seven-minute video compiling every single sample heard on Kendrick Lamar‘s breakthrough debut album Section.80.

The video not only plays each sample, but provides details of each original song, as well as the Section.80 song it appears on. The compilation also mixes audio of both the original song, and Lamar’s tracks, for added comparison. It’s remarkably detailed and very very cool.

There’s a lot of really interesting stuff here. One sample I completely forgot about was C-Murder and Snoop Dogg‘s Down For My Niggaz, which was sampled in Tammy’s Song, and later appeared on Blood on the Leaves by Kanye West too. I also did not realise that there was an Alan Parsons Project sample on Keisha’s Song. It would honestly be worth turning the samples into a playlist of their own.

Much like many of his contemporaries, Lamar has a long-running love of including sampling hroughout his music. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that he was being sued over an unlicensed Bill Withers sample on his Kendrick Lamar EP.

Kendrick Lamar has graced 2016 with a new album, untitled, unmastered, and an Australian tour. Read our live review and check out our photo gallery. He’s also featured in our playlist of the best songs of 2016 so far.
