Radiohead Mix Fan Favourites & New Material In Haunting Live Performance

Radiohead are great. Probably one of the finest bands of our time, they’ve have built a legacy that will ensure they live on in the future as greats. They are almost singlehandedly responsible for an entire sub-genre of high-pitched wailing over experimental instrumentation. But, where many of their clones/spiritual successors fail to capture the nuances the music demands, Radiohead succeed.

The release of A Moon Shaped Pool, their 9th studio album, showed that they still have what it takes to create magic (check out our review here). And now, they’ve played it for the first time.

The announcement of a tour was welcome to fans worldwide, and they kicked it off in Amsterdam – their first performance since 2012. Videos have emerged of the full concert, and while they are fan-shot affairs, it’s still worth checking out (while crossing our fingers and toes that an Australian tour will be announced down the line).

The band played a number of songs from A Moon Shaped Pool, as well as a few fan favourites from older records. They opened the show by playing all five opening tracks in order, before breaking it up by launching into Morning Mr. Magpie, There There from Hail to the Thief and their powerful 2011 standalone single The Daily Mail. Also performed was My Iron Lung, in its first live appearance since 2009. Conspicuously, one noted absentee from the set list was True Love Waits, a fan favourite that had been performed in various incarnations since the mid-1990s, before finally making its way into an album this year.
