Red Bull Announce RBMA Sydney Weekender

Though we’re now feeling the cool sting of winter on our faces in the absence of what was a phenomenal summer lineup of festivals and all manner of live music, the cooler months are steadily becoming a lot cooler. With Splendour’s lineup knocking it out of the park last week and Kaytranada just this morning announcing an AUS/NZ tour, we’ve got one more thing to get you going for the next few months.

Red Bull Music Academy have announced that Sydney will host the 2016 leg of their RBMA Weekender, joining the likes of past hosts Tokyo, Warsaw, Vienna and Stockholm.

From September 8th – 11th, venues across Sydney will showcase a series of high-scale events, lectures, parties and exhibitions. Red Bull have a history of bringing out big names to Australia, with Onra, Romare, Four Tet, Jamie xx, Thundercat and Nicolas Jaar just naming a few, so there is no doubt they’ll be bringing the heat come September. Next Tuesday you can expect a little preview into who will be coming down, but the full lineup won’t drop until June – we cannot wait.

The Music Academy Weekender couldn’t have come at a better time as well. To say that Sydney’s nightlife has suffered over the last two years since the lockout laws were introduced would be a massive understatement. Keep Sydney Open and Reclaim the Streets protests have seen massive turnouts, and though the feelings towards preserving Sydney’s nightlife and live music scene are still incredibly passionate, it’s a frustrating time we’re finding ourselves in. Hopefully Red Bull can, as they’ve said, create “an all-inclusive celebration and exploration of the city’s rich cultural identity” out of what’s left.
