Dark MOFO Lineup Is Here, Get Your Black Makeup Out

The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) has always been a bit weird. From poo machines to chocolate covered suicide bomber remains, to a wall of vaginas, it’s never shied away from the somewhat… avant-garde. Its companion music festival, MONA FOMA (MOFO for short) continues this trend, with lineups featuring art installations where people hammer a metal spike into the ground, massive feasts, and some truly amazing music acts.

The line up for the winter festival, Dark MOFO has just been released, with a pretty clear theme being present: gothic. Living up to the first half of its name, Dark MOFO will be just that. Dark.

The Tasmanian setting will undoubtedly feed the atmosphere, with icy nights giving an almost Scandinavian feel to the festival. The winter component has always been known as more “arty” than its summer brother, but this year it’s clear the organisers haven’t skimped on the musical talent either. Names such as Savages, Tim Hecker and Chelsea Wolfe dot the lineup. Even the main “headliner” act is fairly dark, coming in the form of electronic producer Zhu.

The full lineup is available here at their website, where you can also buy tickets. If you’re in Tasmania during June, or if you’ve ever wanted to come down and visit the island, I highly recommend the festival, and the museum itself. Just make sure to rug up, it gets coooooooold.

Dark MOFO runs from the 10th to the 21st of June in Tasmania.
