Chvrches, Little Dragon & HEALTH to Appear in ‘Loud on Planet X’

A crossover between Toronto’s indie music and indie gaming scenes,  LOUD on Planet X is the latest game from developer Pop Sandbox.” An indie alternative to Rock Band or Guitar Hero with a splash of Plants vs Zombies,” the Kickstarter-funded game tasks players with defending their stage from blob-like alien invaders. Naturally, players can assume the avatars of a few of their indie heroes. Armed with smoke machines, overpowered strobe lights and their own special attacks, each of the bands will be faced with increasingly difficult waves of would-be invaders.

Branching out through Fucked Up, lead developer Alex Janson has recruited a slew of local Toronto acts to appear in-game. Since the game’s announcement in May last year, Tegan and Sara, Purity Ring, METZ, Metric, Lights, July Talk and Austra have all signed on as playable characters. But perhaps saving the best for last the developers have now revealed three of the game’s previously teased international acts. Reading like some kind of dream indie festival lineup, Chvrches, Little Dragon and HEALTH will be joining their Canadian contemporaries.

Talking to Exclaim Lights reflected on the experience of appearing as a digital avatar. “Being immortalized in an avatar, that’s the dream,” she revealed. “I am inspired by video games a lot,” she continued. “The fantasy element is something that takes you out of your everyday and that’s what music is supposed to do, too.”

For those looking to get a hold of the game LOUD on Planet X will be dropping tomorrow on PS4/Steam and April 21 for Apple/IOS.
