Get To Know Nocturnal Tapes With Debut Single “Superficial Light”

Nocturnal Tapes are an upcoming duo out of Yamba, NSW, a town which reportedly has a population of around seven thousand. Two of those are Harry Suttor and Lachlan Mulligan, who came together last year, and have recently released their debut single Superficial Light.

Although they’ve only played a few shows so far, by all accounts they’ve already begun to form a reputation for captivating live shows – and they’re currently on the road, having just performed at Mountain Sounds Festival, with a few more shows on the way. Full details below.

For a debut single, it’s incredibly promising. Anchoring the atmosphere is a seductive deep house rhythm and bass, while the melody carries a totally separate indie-psych vibe. Sure, those two ideas feel totally contradictory, and in theory, they don’t work. But try this on for size and you’ll see what I mean:

It’s a really interesting soundscape. Progressive driving, with a unique melodic blend, it’s a really cool track – and I’m certainly looking forward to hearing more from Nocturnal Tapes.
