D.R.A.M Welcomes 2016 With New Track “1 Year”

D.R.A.M has kicked off 2016 in style, with brand new track titled 1 Year.

Released via SoundCloud, the accompanying caption states, “All it really takes is 1 year.” Indeed, D.R.A.M rose to attention throughout 2015, with the release of two gorgeous EPs: #1 Epic back in March, and Gahdamn! in October, which featured a stunning SZA collaboration, Caretaker2015 also saw D.R.A.M accuse Drake of ripping him off for the year’s biggest viral sensation, Hotline Bling

Produced by Gabe Niles, 1 Year is intricate and interesting, a clear sign that D.R.A.M is well and truly on the rise. A slinky and seductive R&B offering, the track blends wailing electric guitar with a deep beat, chargy rhythms, and layer upon layer of vocal loops and honeyed harmonies.

“You don’t know how hard it was for people like me to get here, I mean right here. And I could change the whole damn game, and it’s only been one short year.”

It’s always interesting to see rising trends in music, and the blending of R&B and hip-hop with rock instrumentation is on a real incline. While sampling rock and jazz in hip-hop is obviously nothing new, D.R.A.M joins contemporaries including Miguel, BJ The Chicago Kid and Anderson. Paak in bringing guitars, funk bass and other elements back into modern R&B and hip-hop.

The talented artist has already caught the attention of Drake, Beyonce, Chance The Rapper and super-producer Rick Rubin among others – and for good reason, too. We have no doubt that we’ll be hearing a lot more from D.R.A.M throughout 2016 and beyond.
