Musical legend David Bowie dies at 69

Reports have this afternoon surfaced that legendary musical icon David Bowie has died following an 18 month long battle with cancer.

The reports have been verified by the publicist of the late, great singer, following accusations that the news was an internet hoax. In a statement posted to the Official Bowie social media accounts and appearing across a number of new outlets, Bowie’s representatives confirm the musician’s death, saying that:

David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.

His son, Duncan, tweeted:

 Only days ago, Bowie released his 25th studio album, the seven-track long  (Blackstar) on his 69th birthday. The album garnered critical acclaim and joined iconic LPs including Let’s Dance, “Heroes”, Diamond Dogs and Hunky Dory. His last live performance was in 2006. David Bowie will forever be remembered as one of the most iconic recording artists, whose worked spanned decades and genres and touched the hearts of music fans the world over.
