Run The Jewels Are Officially Working On Run The Jewels 3

Hip-hop duo Run The Jewels have announced that they’ve begun work on Run The Jewels 3, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2014’s groundbreaking Run The Jewels 2.

The news comes as a last minute holiday surprise, as the pair had stated earlier this year that work on RTJ3 would not commence until 2016. The pair cited touring, and working on (perhaps 2015’s strangest musical release) Meow The Jewels, as the roadblocks preventing them from getting to work earlier. Killer Mike has of course been putting a great deal of effort into his political input across 2015, endorsing presidential candidate Bernie Sanders wherever possible at recent events, interviews and media appearances.

Taking to Instagram, El-P shared the first snippet of new music from the upcoming album:

RTJ3 is just getting started.

Other than feline-friendly remix project Meow The Jewels, Run The Jewels officially released two songs in 2015: Rubble Kings Theme (Dynamite), to be heard on upcoming hip-hop documentary Rubble Kings, and Record Store Day exclusive Bust No Moves.

Run The Jewels last visited Australia to perform at Falls Festival 2014-15, along with a couple of headline shows. A full year later it’s still considered one of our favourite live performances of the entire year, so we can only cross our fingers and toes that new music will bring RTJ back to Australia some time in 2016.
