Three Albums That Changed My Life: Crooked Colours

The Plot is just about to descend on Sydney’s Parramatta, and excited is an understatement for how we’re feeling. After taking a year off, the festival has returned bigger and better than ever, and boasts an absolutely killer lineup of international and national artists.

From UK electronic outfit Friend Within, through to local darlings Tkay Maidza and Basenji; even guaranteed party-starters SafiaTuka and Art Vs Science, this festival really does have something for everyone!

Perth trio Crooked Colours will also be in attendance, bringing their slightly darker brand of electronic music to the festival. Having released their debut EP last year through tastemaker label Sweat It Out! Music, the boys have been safely killing it for quite a while now. Quickly becoming one of the best live acts in the country, they’ve made a name for themselves both on stage and on the record.

Because we are big Crooked Colours fans, we asked the boys a little bit more about themselves, and the three albums that changed their lives. Check the details below for The Plot this weekend, and jump on the few remaining tickets now!

Booka Shade, Eve
Favourite songs: Love Inc.Many Rivers

This was the first record that properly introduced us to house music. I think we got given this album not really knowing much about Booka Shade but once we gave it a spin, we were hooked. Love Inc. is the highlight of the record for us, it pays tribute to Lil Louis with a sample from his track Club Lonely.

Jamie xx, In Colour
Favourite songs: Gosh, Girl

I had just bought this album before we went away to write some new tracks. It wasn’t that long ago but it was a huge inspiration for us, from the moody ballads to the floor filling bangers. Gosh sounds like a party turned inside out.

Yeasayer, Odd Blood
Favourite songs: Ambling Alp, O.N.E

Yeasayer and this record in particular, we draw a heap of inspiration from. Their ability to make off-kilter pop with intricate percussion and soaring melodies all work together is something pretty special. It’s a great album and we still go back to it looking for ideas and inspiration.
