DJ Absolut Gives Us An Unreleased Version Of Jay Z’s The Black Gangster

DJ Absolut is currently on week 15 of his #MixtapeMonday series and has been a reliable source of new material from veterans of the rap game, and this week is no exception. Absolut has revealed a previously unreleased version of Jay Z’s The Black Gangster.

A version of the song first appeared on a 1997 Roc-A-Fella promotional tape released a few months before Jay Z’s album In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 dropped.

The song is also known by the title This Life Forever and has been a DJ staple since ’99, and has gradually become known as The Black Gangster (it appeared on the soundtrack in the movie of the same name). It was also featured on Jay Z’s 2003 mixtape S. Carter Collection.

While Jay Electronica hinted earlier this month that Jay Z may have some new music in the works, this rare track uncovered by DJ Absolut might end up being the only “new” Jay Z song released in 2015. Regardless, this track is a must-have for diehard Jay Z fans to revisit some of his bars from his peak era, while patiently awaiting his next move.

Absolut has put out some absolutely (pun not intended) killer tracks in the past 15 weeks, including a brand new track from Mobb Deep last month. I am looking forward to see how long he can keep this run going.
