The Hotline Bling video is upon us

Hotline Bling is one of the biggest tracks to have come out this year so far. And while I’m not the biggest Drake fan around, I have to admit that I actually love this song. Maybe it’s the overbearing radio presence, and the fact that I heard it literally everywhere I go, including multiple times a night at bars and clubs, but it’s gotten under my skin.

The song has been covered by no less than four artists, my favourite being the stunning Erykah Badu redux, as well as Disclosure and Sam Smith‘s take.

The clip – released in his time zone at 6 pm, of course, the 6 god has unveiled something pretty, surreal and strange – typical for Drake, but not for many of his R&B contemporaries. The clip begins with a pan through a call centre office, before we see Drake hanging around, dancing, and chillin’ on stairs in a vast, blank space.  His dancing has really grabbed our attention – it’s dramatic, a little strange – almost a kind of contemporary improvisational type thing. Altogether it’s a little hilarious – not sure if that was the intention or not.

Hotline Bling is slowly creeping its way up to the very top spot on the Billboard charts. He’s currently just behind The Weeknd, but he’s got high hopes. He told Instagram followers, “I have never had a billboard number one… If I get my first number one during the month of October it will be the biggest moment of my career to date (in my mind) and if you are looking for me on that particular evening I will be passed out in the water slide that connects to our pool.”
