Toro Y Moi and Astronauts, etc. cover ‘Rocket Man’

In just a few days, Toro Y Moi a.k.a. Chaz Bundick will embark on an epic North American tour, playing 36 shows in a just under a month and a half, before gracing our Aussie shores for Falls and Southbound Festivals.

Supporting him on this adventure is opening act Astronauts, etc., which is the side project of Toro Y Moi’s keyboardist Anthony Ferraro. The artists have teamed up to record a cover of the Elton John 1972 classic Rocket Man. The cover has a completely different vibe to Elton’s classic, showcasing a chill, jazzy feel, with a funky baseline; it’s an amazing version that somehow also manages to reflect both Toro’s and Astronauts’ musical styles. See for yourself below.

Toro Y Moi recently released a surprise 20-track free download mixtape entitled Samantha, via his Instagram account. “‘Samantha’ out 8-28-15,” Bundick wrote on Instagram, before posting a Dropbox link routing fans to where they could download for the mixtape for free.

Samantha comes just four months after Toro released his new LP What For? and the mixtape features collaborations with Nosaj Thing, Rome Fortune, Das Racist’s Kool A.D. and Washed Out and includes previously released Room for 1zone, that was launched back in June. Most of the collection, however, is previously unreleased material recorded between January 2012 and August 2015 .

The debut of Astronauts, etc., Mind Out Wandering, is set to be released this Friday September 18, the day before the two artists set out on tour.
