Lupe Fiasco plans to destroy all the copies of his album, Lasers, with an actual laser. The album spent three years in production hell, only to be widely panned by critics and fans alike upon its release. It drew criticism for the overwrought choruses, the lack of credibility and trite motivational lyricism, and has been even been described by some as the worst rap album of all time. Now, four years later, Lupe has decided to rid us of this awful album once and for all.
In a Facebook message to fans, the rapper stated that in a bid to be creative, he will forgo making an album and instead ‘unmake’ one.
“So here’s my idea. For all you people who really hated my 3rd album LASERS for whatever reason in the universe I want you to send it back to me so I can destroy it with an actual Laser,” he said, ‘the fact still remains that a lot of people really loved LASERS (me included), despite the popular myth that it’s one of the worst rap albums ever but sometimes the myth can be stronger than the truth”.
The rapper will not be reimbursing anyone, nor apologising, but will instead use a big ass laser to destroy any physical copies that fans send back. How very meta.
Earlier this year, Lupe released the highly regarded, acclaimed Tetsuo & Youth. Don’t burn this one – it’s well worth a listen.
